1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including:

• Account information (email, name, timezone)
• Approximate location (coarse, city-level) used for matching and time zones
• Wake-up preferences and schedules
• Chat messages (see the Data Retention section below)
• Usage data and app interactions
• Camera input during camera-based wake-up missions, processed only on your device (see "Camera and Photos" below)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Match you with wake-up buddies
• Provide and improve our services
• Send you notifications about alarms and matches
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the app

3. Camera and Photos

Some wake-up missions use your device camera: push-ups, squats, one-leg balance, walking, the wake selfie, Sky Photo, Color Hunt and Object Hunt, and Brush Your Teeth shows a mirror preview when camera access is already granted. Camera frames for these missions are analyzed on your device only, in real time, to check that the mission was completed. They are never uploaded to our servers.

Photos and short videos captured during a mission (for example your wake selfie, a Sky Photo, or a recording of your push-ups) stay on your device and are uploaded only if you choose to share them on the Mornings feed or with your buddy. Shared photos are checked by an automated safety service before other users can see them.

4. Information Sharing

We share limited information with your matches:

• First name only
• Timezone
• Trust/reliability score

We never share your email, phone number, or personal details with other users.

We also rely on a small set of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only to run the app:

• Firebase (Google) for accounts, database, storage, and push notifications
• Mixpanel for product analytics
• Resend for transactional email, such as verification and account notices
• Google Cloud Vision for automated photo safety scanning

5. Morning Crew Automated Messages

When no real user is available to match with you at your alarm time, Alarm Mate may pair you with a Morning Crew member. Morning Crew is a set of pre-defined characters with automated messages selected based on the context of your chat. Morning Crew members are not real people and are clearly distinguished by a subtle visual marker on their profile.

Your messages sent during a Morning Crew chat are stored in our database in the same way as messages to real users, and are subject to the same privacy and retention policies described here. These messages are not transmitted to any third-party AI service.

If you directly ask a Morning Crew member whether they are a real person, they will always answer honestly. You can also identify Morning Crew members by the subtle sparkle pattern around their profile avatar.

6. Content Moderation & Safety

To keep Alarm Mate safe, our team reviews content that is reported by users or flagged by automated systems (including photos, posts, and chat messages tied to a report). We may remove content, restrict social features, or suspend accounts that violate our guidelines. Moderation records are kept for up to 12 months after a report is closed, then deleted. We process this data to fulfil our safety obligations and legitimate interest in protecting our community.

7. Data Retention

• 1:1 buddy chats: Automatically deleted about 24 hours after the morning
• Community group chats: Retained while the group exists, and deleted when the group is dissolved or you leave the group or delete your account
• Account data: Retained while account is active
• Usage analytics: Aggregated and anonymized

8. Your Rights

You can:

• Access your data
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Opt out of non-essential communications
