Solve each problem and type your answer.

Problem 1 of 3
23 + 48 = ?

Set up here the way a lot of people run it: 3 problems on the Easy tier. The app's own default is 1 problem on Very easy, and you can dial it up to 10 problems on any of 7 tiers, from 7 + 6 to Hell mode (41 × 17) + (28 × 13).

How it works

  1. 1

Pick a tier and how many problems when you set the alarm. One to ten.

  2. 2

When it rings, the problem appears with a number pad. Type the answer.

  3. 3

It submits itself when the digits line up. There is a playable version on this page.

You set 1 to 10 problems, across seven difficulty tiers from Very easy to Hell mode

Why it works

Arithmetic is the classic hard alarm for a reason. It cannot be done by muscle memory. No button to learn the position of, no gesture to repeat, nothing your hand can do while your brain stays offline. Either you did the sum or you did not.

Most math alarms have one level of hard, and it is either trivial after a week or so brutal that people switch the feature off in disgust. There are seven tiers here and the gaps between them are real. Very easy stays in single digits. Normal brings in multiplication and clean division. Hard gives you two step problems like 23 x 4 + 9. Super hard wants three digit subtraction with borrowing, and Hell mode combines two whole products into one expression, which nobody should attempt lying down.

You pick the count as well, one to ten. A single problem at a punishing tier and ten problems at a gentle one are completely different mornings and both are defensible. Answers go in on a number pad and submit themselves once the digit count matches, so there is no confirm button to hunt for one handed. A wrong answer clears the box and costs you nothing but time, and when the last correct one lands the alarm stops mid ring rather than at the end of a countdown.

Who it’s for

This is for people whose body wakes up long before their brain does. If you can stand, walk around and still not be capable of a decision, arithmetic forces the lights on. It is also the best answer for anyone who has learned to beat their current alarm on autopilot, since there is no autopilot route through 68 x 15. Try a tier on this page, then set your alarm one tier easier than whatever you just managed, because you are awake right now and that is cheating.

FAQ

Math Problems, answered.

How hard does the math alarm get?

Very easy is single digit addition like 7 + 4. Hell mode gives you things like 43 x 27 + 31 x 18. Seven tiers sit between them, so you can find the one that beats you without it being cruel.

What happens if I get one wrong?

It flashes, clears the box and lets you try again. No points lost, no extra problems, no time penalty. The only cost is that the alarm is still ringing while you think.

Can I look up the answer on another device?

Of course. If you are awake enough to unlock a second device and type the sum into it, the alarm has done its job. That is the mission working, not a loophole.

Do I have to press submit?

No. It checks as soon as you have typed as many digits as the answer has, so a three digit answer submits on the third digit. It keeps you from hunting for a button one handed.
