How it works
- 1
Pick a difficulty when you set the alarm. Easy is three metres, the rest are five.
- 2
When it rings, get up and walk. A progress bar fills as the distance is covered.
- 3
Reach one hundred percent and the alarm stops. Hard and Beast make you stay put first.
You set 3 metres on Easy, 5 metres from Medium up, plus a 20 or 60 second stay on the hard tiers
Why it works
The bed is the problem. Not the noise, not the time, not your willpower at 5:50am. Every other mission is a proxy for getting away from the mattress, and this one just measures the thing directly.
Distance comes from the phone’s own sense of where it is in the room, built from the camera and motion sensors together. No GPS, so a windowless flat works the same as a garden. A filter throws away any movement faster than a brisk walk, which stops the tracking from jumping when you swing the phone through a dark doorway.
Easy asks for three metres. Medium asks for five. Hard and Beast want five metres and then twenty or sixty seconds of staying there, which is where it gets interesting, because the obvious cheat is to walk to the kitchen, leave the phone on the counter and go straight back to bed. The phone can tell when it has stopped moving the way something held by a person moves. Fifteen seconds parked and the stay timer goes back to zero. If the camera is blocked or the room is too dark to track, it switches to counting steps instead, between fifteen and sixty of them depending on the tier. There is no give up button here, and the only automatic bail is when both the camera and the step counter are unavailable, which means the mission genuinely cannot run.
Who it’s for
If your alarm gets dismissed from inside the duvet with your eyes shut, this is the one that ends it. People tend to arrive here after the noisy alarms stop working, because you cannot learn to ignore a distance the way you learn to ignore a sound. Put the phone across the room overnight and the mission is half done before it rings.
FAQ
Walk Away from Bed, answered.
Does the walk alarm use GPS?
No. It tracks how far the phone has moved through space using the camera and motion sensors, so it works indoors and in a hallway with no signal at all.
Can I fake it by shaking the phone?
Not usefully. It measures displacement, so waving the phone around returns you to where you started and the bar does not move. There is also a speed clamp that ignores impossible jumps.
What happens in a pitch dark room?
You get a hint about the light, and after about thirty seconds of poor tracking it switches to counting steps. That swap is one way, so the mission finishes on steps.
Can I put the phone down once I get there?
On Hard and Beast, no. Those tiers ask you to stay away for twenty or sixty seconds, and the phone can tell when it has been set on a surface. Leave it parked long enough and the hold timer starts again from zero.

Pick as many as you like.
When the alarm rings, one of the missions you picked fires, chosen at random. Finish it and the alarm stops on the spot.
